GMO, NISR and PARIS 21 Kicked off training on Gender Data Reportin
The Gender Monitoring Office in collaboration with the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) with the support of Paris 21 has on Monday 20th November 2023 kicked off a five-day training session for journalists on gender data storytelling and reporting. This training aimed at equipping journalists with the skills in gender data use, storytelling and reporting.
While opening this training, Deputy Chief Gender Monitor Rurihose H. Florien highlighted the role of media in promoting gender equality. He emphasized producing stories that can help in the policy process, awareness campaign and decision-making.
The training is intended to help journalists from different media houses in Rwanda enhance their capacity to interpret and integrate gender-disaggregated data into their reporting. It is expected that participants demonstrating a keen interest in utilizing gender data from national surveys will undergo an immersive experience designed to elevate their data analysis skills, specifically in the context of gender.
This training is a great contribution to the wide dissemination of gender data from different national surveys. They will be capable of using gender-disaggregated data for their reporting and debates. They will advocate for the production of gender-disaggregated data at different levels, their usage for evidence-based policy and decision-making

About GMO
The Government of Rwanda established the Gender Monitoring Office through the Constitution of 2003 revised in 2015, with a mandate to monitor the respect of Gender Equality principles, promote gender accountability at all levels and fight against Gender Based Violence and related injustices.
Affiliated to the Office of the Prime Minister, the Gender Monitoring Office is established by the law No 51/2007 0f 20/09/2007 which determines its responsibilities, organization and functioning.

The National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) was created in October 2005 as an independent institution out of the former Department of Statistics in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MINECOFIN) and the National Service of Census.
About Paris 21
The Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century (PARIS21) aims to improve the production, quality, availability, and use of statistics for informed decision-making for sustainable development. It was established in 1999 by the United Nations, the European Commission, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank as a response to the need for accurate and reliable data to achieve and track progress toward development goals.
