Gender Seal Certification Programme Launched for Rwanda Revenue Authority
Gender Monitoring Office in collaboration with the Private Sector Federation with the support of UNDP-Rwanda and UN Women on Monday, January 2024 at Serena Hotel launched the Gender Seal Certification for Rwanda Revenue Authority to strengthen gender accountability in tax Administration and system in Rwanda.
The launch was attended by Chief Gender Monitor Umutoni Gtsinzi Nadine, Commissioner for Strategy and Risk Analysis at Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) Dr MURASI Innocente, Deputy Country Representative for UNDP-Rwanda Ms.Varsha Redkar-Palepu.
“We are collaborating with Rwanda Revenue Authority to strengthen gender accountability in tax administration and tax reforms towards a gender-responsive Rwanda tax system and make taxes responsive to both women and men's needs" Chief Gender Monitor in her remarks
“We are enrolling Rwanda Revenue Authority in the Programme to enable them to further promote gender equality and Gender Accountability in the tax administration and procedures” added the Chief Gender Monitor
Rwanda Revenue Authority will benefit as an institution from this process and how engendered tax processes could promote women's/men's businesses. In addition, implementing the program will support RRA to remove biases in the tax systems that disadvantage women, and make taxes responsive to women’s needs.
Rwanda Revenue Authority Commissioner in charge of Risk and Strategy Analysis, Dr Murasi Innocente highlighted different initiatives undertaken by RRA publishing fully gender-disaggregated statistics relating to all staff; integrating all individual taxpayers in doing so RRA became the first country in Africa to publish such a comprehensive state of gender-disaggregated tax data.
The GES is an instrument for enhancing the role of the private sector in creating equitable conditions for men and women in the workplace. Since its establishment in 2017, 43 institutions enrolled in the programme and among them, 18 are certified with Gold Seal
