Gender Data Lab Initiative Launched

The Gender Monitoring Office in collaboration with the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda with the support of Paris 21 has On Wednesday, 03 April 2024 launched the Gender Data Lab Initiative aimed at institutionalizing evidence-informed policy-making for gender equality.

The launch event was held at the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda and attended by Chief Gender Monitor Umutoni Gatsinzi Nadine, Deputy Director General of the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda Mr. Ivan MURENZI, Inter-Regional Advisor at PARIS21 Philippe Gafishi, participants from public institutions and civil society organizations.

In his remarks, Deputy Director General Mr Ivan Murenzi of the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda said that the Gender Data Lab serve to generate actionable insights that will drive meaningful change in the lives of women and girls across Rwanda.

"The availability of gender Data is essential for designing policies that further advance accountability for gender equality and serves as a critical tool for monitoring progress toward achieving gender equality," said CGM Umutoni Gatsinzi Nadine during the Launch of the Gender Data Lab

Chief Gender Monitor highlighted the crucial role of the launched Gender Data Lab initiative. "Gender Data Lab initiative will serve as a critical tool for monitoring progress toward achieving gender equality targets, such as those outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and our NST1 and Vision 2050."

The Gender Data Lab represents a pioneering effort to revolutionize gender data collection, analysis and utilization. It will focus on developing sustainable data products that consolidate existing gender data sources and utilize advanced data science techniques to extract meaningful insights. By bridging the gap between data producers and users, the GDL promises to empower policymakers with the evidence they need to drive gender-responsive policies and programs
