Gender Accountability Week launched in Western Province
The Gender Monitoring Office, in collaboration with the Western Province, has on Tuesday, 25th March 2025, launched Gender Accountability Week in all districts of Western Province. At the Provincial level, the event took place in Nyamasheke district, in the Kanjongo Sector in the Special community dialogue " Inteko y'abaturage."
This launch was attended by the Governor of Western Province Mr. Ntibutura Jean Bosco, Chief Gender Monitor Ms. Umutoni Gatsinzi Nadine, Mayor of Nyamasheke district Mr. Mupenzi Narcisse, security organs, Partners, and the host community.

In her remarks, Chief Gender Monitor Ms. Umutoni Gatsinzi Nadine said, "Promoting gender equality start to our home, Nyamasheke district should be the lead in promoting gender equality between women and men"

"Gender Accountability Week was introduced to identify gender and family-related issues in the community and contribute to building a stable and peaceful family ", added Chief Gender Monitor
While closing this day, the Governor of Western Province Mr. Ntibitura Jean Bosco requested the community to register their children and legalize their marriage for those who are living in informal union so as to fight against family conflict.
During this week, in all districts of the Western Province, different activities will be conducted, including child registration, Marriage legalization, gender dialogues with local leaders, dialogues with religious leaders on their role in promoting gender equality, dialogues with local government leaders on their role in promoting gender equality and combating gender-based violence, dialogue with district and sector leaders and employees on workplace gender-based violence, special community service activity (Umuganda) and a dialogue on family-related challenges at the IWAWA rehabilitation center.
About Gender Accountability Week
Gender Accountability Month was launched in 2017 as a homegrown initiative to promote gender equality and institutionalize gender accountability at both central and decentralized levels. In 2023, the Western Province conducted this campaign for the first time and achieved more. Gender Accountability Week has also been conducted in the Northern, Southern, and Eastern Provinces. The campaign was also carried out in various districts, including Rulindo, Nyagatare, Ngororero, Nyaruguru, Gatsibo, Muhanga, and Gicumbi.
