Gender Accountability Month launched in Western Province

Gender Monitoring Office in collaboration with Western Province has on Tuesday 17th October 2023 launched Gender Accountability Month in all districts of Western Province. At the Provincial level, the event took place in Nyabihu district, in the Rugera Sector in the Special community dialogue " Inteko y'abaturage."

This launch attender with the Governor of Western Province Mr. Lambert Dushimimana, Chief Gender Monitor Ms. Umutoni Gatsinzi Nadine, Mayor of Nyabihu district Ms. MUKANDAYISENGA Antoinette, security organs, Partners, and the host community.

In her remarks, Chief Gender Monitor Ms. Umutoni Gatsinzi Nadine said "Promoting gender equality start to our home, Nyabihu district should be the lead in promoting gender equality between women and men"

"Gender Accountability Month was introduced to identify gender and family-related issues in the community and contribute to building a stable and peaceful family "added Chief Gender Monitor

While closing this day, the Governor of Western Province Mr. Lambert Dushimimana requested the community to register their children and legalize their marriage for those who are living in informal union so as to fight against family conflict.

During this month in all districts of the Western Province, different activities will be conducted including child registration, Marriage legalization, gender dialogues with local leaders, Dialogue on the Role of youths in promoting Gender Equality and Fighting Gender-Based Violence, promoting gender accountability in the private sector in Western province, Monitor the respect of gender equality among men and women in cross-border trade, assessment of gender responsiveness in schools and Kuremera.

About Gender Accountability Month

Gender Accountability Month was initiated in 2017 as a home growth solution to promote gender equality and ensure institutionalization of gender accountability at central and decentralized levels. Western Province is the third province to conduct this campaign after Northern and Eastern Provinces. It was also conducted in different districts including Rulindo, Nyagatare, Ngororero, Nyaruguru, Gatsibo, Muhanga, and Gicumbi.
