The Gender Monitoring Office in collaboration with Southern, Northern and Eastern provinces has recently concluded gender accountability dialogues in Nyamagabe, Gicumbi and Nyagatare districts that discussed on the role of local leaders in promoting gender accountability and enhancing Gender Based Violence service delivery.
The dialogues were conducted in collaboration with ARCT Ruhuka and Rwanda Civil Society Platform and were support by UN women Rwanda.
The dialogues were attended by all Village leaders in Nyamagabe district, Executive secretaries of cells, executive secretaries of sectors, district officials, Security and Justice Organs at district Level, non-governmental institutions as well as faith-based organizations.
The dialogues have been an opportunity for local leaders to share experience in promoting gender equality and accountability in their respective communities. They particularly disused on effective ways to respond to GBV related issues once they happen in their respective communities.
Local leaders committed to be accountable on gender equality promotion and fighting gender-based violence and committed to report GBV cases once they happen.
The Chief Gender Monitor Rose Rwabuhihi thanked local leaders and the leadership of Nyamagabe, Gicumbi and Nyagatare district and the leadership of their respective provinces for their commitment to promote gender equality and fighting gender-based violence in order to ensure that men and women get equal rights and opportunities.
