Delegates from different private sector companies were last week trained on how to promote of gender equality in the workplace.
The training is in the framework of enrolling the Gender Equality Seal (GES) Certification Programme which is being implemented in partnership with GMO, PSF and UNDP Rwanda. The programme is expected to enhance Gender Accountability in Rwanda’s Private sector.
Trained participants committed to drive change to ensure that the workplace is more favorable for men and women to make all employees work better and allow them deliver more in their respective institutions.
Speaking at the closing of the training, the Chief Gender Monitor Rose Rwabuhihi appreciated efforts and commitment of the Rwanda private sector in promoting gender equality. “I’m confident that more achievements will be realized as different stakeholders are highly committed towards contributing to this journey,” The Chief Gender Monitor said.
“We all have to work together to keep making the work environment more gender friendly to allow both men and women exercise their work in equitable conditions ’’ added the Chief Gender Monitor.
The Gender Equality Certification Seal comes at a right moment when the private sector is positioned as the key driver of Rwanda economic transformation.
The Director of Communication, Advocacy and Labour Relations at PSF Deus Kayitakirwa, pledged full commitment to ensuring respect of gender equality in all aspects as it increases productivity. He said that the Private Sector Federation will make all effort to ensure that the gender equality is applied at the workplace.
In his remarks, the UN Resident Coordinator Mr. Fodé Ndiaye said that the One UN is happy to to partner with GMO and PSF in implementing the Gender Equality Seal Certification Programme as gender equality is at the core of UN.
The training which took place in Kigali from April 3 to 6 April 2018 was also attended by staff of the Gender Monitoring Office (GMO), Centre for Gender Studies and United Nations for Development to also enhance knowledge and capacities on respect of gender equality principles at the workplace.
